Sitka is thrilled to announce that Intisar Abioto and Mika Aono will join Sitka’s Residency Program leadership team as Sitka Fellows.
Intisar Abioto
Black Art/ists Project Fellow
Through her Fellowship award, Abioto will curate an annual collaborative two-week residency for emerging and established Black artists at Sitka as part of her Black Art/ists Project. First-year funding for this Fellowship and program is made possible, in part, through a generous grant from the Ford Family Foundation.
Mika Aono
Printmaking Fellow
Through her Fellowship award, and in collaboration with printmaker Julia D’Amario, Aono will help lead Sitka’s Jordan Schnitzer Printmaking Residency Program and imagine the program’s future looking ahead to its 25th anniversary in 2027. Partial funding for this Fellowship and program are possible through the generous annual support of Jordan Schnitzer and a one-time gift made to the program in honor of artist Larry Thomas, who helped establish the printmaking residency program at Sitka.
